colt learning to standAt our early meetings we decided to initially focus on 4 areas:

– Mapping information about organisations already working to make East Kent an area of sanctuary. We are working on an accessible spreadsheet to make information available on this page.

– Doing community outreach to engage a broad range of people around the idea of Sanctuary (with an event in the pipeline using football in Dover).

– Gathering pledges from local businesses, sports clubs, places of worship & potentially landlords who want to support EKNS and then changing these pledges into actions to help local people including getting apprenticeships & free places at sports clubs for young asylum seekers.

– Working with local schools to engage pupils around the idea of sanctuary and welcome. This element of the work is being coordinated by Samphire and the Diocese of Canterbury who are working with local schools through the Kent Schools of Sanctuary project: a bespoke package of support to help schools become Schools of Sanctuary.
